Captain William J. (Bill) Moredock, USN (Retired), passed away on October 24, 2013 surrounded by Sparky, his loving wife of 60 years and his family. Bill was born June 13, 1929 to the late Marguerite and Kenneth Moredock in Pittsburgh, PA.
Bill had a dedicated and successful Naval career having served in Vietnam, the Pentagon, and three commands, retiring in 1977 as Commodore Destroyer Squadron 14. Following his retirement, Bill and his family made Jacksonville their home. Bill went on to have a very successful business career.
Bill was active in the Boy Scouts of America, was an Eagle Scout, was Chairman for Shawnee District, and was awarded the Silver Beaver, Northeast Florida BSA. Bill was a member and past President of the Arlington Rotary Club and served as Rotary International District Governor, District 6970, in 1994/1995.
Bill is survived by his wife Frances (Sparky), four sons, Bill (Nancy), James (Laurel), Jeff (Janet) and David (Lisa), one daughter, Kim Lan Spencer (Charles); grandchildren Nicole, Isaac, Shirley, Jeffrey, Sarah Powell (Harrison), Hannah, Rebekah, Will Pafford, Kristina Spencer, and Ashley Lemmenes (Pete); sister, Claudia Hair, brothers Robert Schrader, Jeff Moredock (Etta), sister-in-law Marlynn Moredock; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Jerry. Bill never met a stranger and his family was his pride and joy! He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.
A private interment was held Friday, November 1 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 9th, 11am, at First Presbyterian Church, 118 East Monroe Street, Jacksonville, with Rev. Dr. Robert L. Morris, Jr. officiating.
